Another nice-to-have: column linking

Postby stonefish » Mon Feb 25, 2008 3:59 pm

Afternoon :)

Here's another "not critical, but nice to have" issue...

I sometimes have the unfortunate situation where a field is renamed and the existing data in the destination field must remain. However, the update script from SQLDelta will (obviously and understandably) remove the "old" field in the destination table - which will loose it's data - and then create the "new" field.

I'm not sure exactly how this could be implemented in the GUI, but it would be rather a useful feature to allow SQLDelta to "link" those fields. This could cause a rename rather than the current drop/create.

At the moment, I have to use a copy of the update scripts and alter as necessary before running it.

Your thoughts?

Cheers,
Tom :)

Hi Tom,

We are looking into this, it is currently on our to-do list. At this stage i'm not sure when a feature to deal with this issue will be implemented.
